In a fiery segment from the National Media Sports show, a former NBA player stirred controversy by criticizing Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers, accusing him of making excuses and shirking accountability. The remarks come at a crucial time for the Bucks, who face mounting pressure to deliver results following the All-Star break. With the spotlight squarely on Milwaukee, the harsh critique adds fuel to the fire, intensifying the scrutiny on Rivers and the team. As the Bucks aim to optimize their performance post-break, they must navigate this added pressure from the national media and prove themselves in the face of heightened expectations.
[00:00:00] On this episode of Milwaukee Bucks Beat, we're gonna talk about DAC Rivers and JJ Reddick. The thing that is happening over at ESPN right now Let's get into it You're listening to the Milwaukee Bucks Beat sponsored by hungry-lying productions video production services from start to finish.
[00:00:32] Higher them today at hungry-lying productions.com And now here's your host, Michael Edwards Welcome to Milwaukee Bucks Beat, I'm your host, Michael Edwards Here we are with an unscheduled podcast So let me set this up Okay, and I'm going under fair use on this
[00:00:52] I'm gonna be using clips just so you have the full story And kind of what happened and then I want to kind of talk about it on the back end of it So first of all, this controversy starts on first take on ESPN from JJ Reddick
[00:01:07] Now someone I really respected until now But he played many years in the league started in 2006 His last year was 2021 He played in Orlando, he played for Toronto for one season there And then the clipers under coach DAC Rivers And then he played for Philly
[00:01:30] And then a year at New Orleans in the year of Toronto and then he was Other league gone Average 1213 points of game Really good shooter, that's what he's known for, it's a field goal shot High percentage mid 40s upper 40s
[00:01:48] Good 3 point shooter and that's what he's known for He's known for a shooting and okay so set that table he has a podcast And he's trying to be a media guy now Okay, one of the things I want to say I respected about JJ Reddick until today
[00:02:04] Was that he wasn't one of those national boys that was just say things in Pilon And let us emotions affect his opinion And he's very logical for the most part And the thing is you know I can give him a pass
[00:02:18] I'm going to get in the end of this before I get into that part of it though So here's what happens okay so JJ Reddick goes on first take And he says this Side note real quick No one's going to react to Docs Audio there
[00:02:35] Hello, no one's going to react to Docs audio Do you want me to get it before you? I've seen the trend now I've seen the trend for years The trend is always making excuses Get Doc we get it taking over a team in the middle of the season
[00:02:49] It's hard We get it just like getting traded in the middle season It's hard for a player We get it But it's always an excuse It's always throwing your team under the bus They lose to Memphis all which is players
[00:03:00] Memphis was playing glee guys and two way guys And you look at his quotes over the weekend now He wants to take credit for the James Harden trade To the Clippers working out He wants credit for that There's never a accountability with that guy There's never a accountability
[00:03:15] So clearly there's a lot of issues that JJ Reddick has with Doc Rivers Now if you're going to be a commentator If you're going to be a podcaster from the angle he's coming at You don't want to have emotions And that outburst prompted Milwaukee Bucks Guard Patrick Beverly
[00:03:33] To release a tweet saying This man, Doc Actually saved your career JJ Reddick Started you when no one else wanted to And you go retire go on TV and say that Totally agree Then also Former NBA player And the coaches son Austin Rivers Had a comment to make
[00:03:53] But I'm going to play in its entirety It is 90 seconds long But I do want you to have the full picture Here's what Austin had to say First off, I don't feel responsible to take off From my dad he's a grown man He could do his own thing
[00:04:05] But in this regard, I just simply don't agree with it For someone who's not accountable He seems to always be held responsible Considering he's the guy that's always fired But things don't go right He got fired in the bubble For a 3-1 lead versus the Denver Doug
[00:04:18] It's which in half his team Didn't want to be there They had players saying that their mind wasn't there Had guys leave That happened Then he gets fired for losing to a team That was favored over him Which was a Celtics last year
[00:04:30] It seems like he's always responsible It's just a strange coming from JJ And I have to love for JJ You're my dukey, you know that you're my bro I love you It's just your best year's world with the clip I don't think he saved your career
[00:04:42] I appreciate you Pat But I don't think This just seems a little bit weird There are 3 and 7 Dames missed most of those games Milletons missed a lot of those games They haven't even had their full team yet We'll see what happens
[00:04:55] The pressure is there they do have to perform But in terms of accountability What we're doing here You're best years in the NBA Or when you played for him in the clipers Let's not forget that I don't know if there's like frustration there
[00:05:07] Or there's tension there between you I know a lot of times we had to sit you towards the end of the game Do the defensive reasons But you had your best years as a starter there Especially our whole system was drafted around
[00:05:16] You could put the ball on the floor You were strictly shoot guy You're not like clay times under stuff We'll put the ball on the floor You were a guy who could catch and shoot And you did it at a high level
[00:05:25] A hell of a career by the way Big fan But your best years were under him It's just very ironic and kind of weird That you have this energy towards him In terms of him never ever been accountable Considering he's always been responsible And that's what I'll say
[00:05:38] Well said by Austin I'm seeing a lot of people Powing on to Doc Rivers And yeah, let's go into that part So 3 and 7 fine The coach takes over He inherits a shitstorm Because that's what it was Everyone's looking Let me even go back There's two types of people
[00:05:58] There's people who watch box games Like me and like box fans And there's people who see the final score And look at the box score Look at the record And don't know a damn thing About what's going on on the floor Adrian Griffin got fired
[00:06:13] Because there are a lot of give me games That he blew This team did not haunt a play defense There was no organization There was no leadership And we saw where this was going That is what Doc Rivers inherited You add The toughest road trip of the year
[00:06:30] The bucks are going on When Doc Rivers takes over Starting in Denver They're going to Portland Then Dallas Then Utah on a back to back Phoenix Suns Then the Timberwolf Like come on Chris Middleton's out Brookloat has his out for the birth of his kid
[00:06:45] He is our RIMPRTECTER Dam is banged up His ankles out So yeah And then you look at the bucks grisly game Cool You know what? There's good players in the G League 2 JJ Reddick It clown I mean, I had so much respect for him
[00:07:01] And for him to say what he said Those are hurt for words He's trying to upset Doc Rivers He clearly has an agenda here Let's look at the stats on that game Now these are NBA players Okay Whether they've been in the league for ten years
[00:07:19] Or they're playing their ass offs Try to make an NBA roster These dudes are clearly good They're talented They shot 53% from the field Against the bucks They shot 50% from three So I don't care if they're in the G League They played really good
[00:07:35] And they played good enough to beat the Milwaukee Bucks The buck shot 25% from three That's why they lost 11 for 44 Had nothing to do with the defense It was just a bad shooting night And it happens It has nothing to do with Doc Rivers JJ Reddick
[00:07:49] And there's no joke about The years JJ Reddick was with Doc Rivers Those were his best years And those four years His field cup percentage was 45.5 Then 47.7 48 44 3.0 1 year He was 47.5 From three That was his third year with Doc So obviously something was working there for him
[00:08:14] So clearly something happened Where JJ Reddick is a hair up his ass And now Kendrick Perkins wants to jump on the pile He's going to make some comment tomorrow And you know just go on through Twitter Seeing all the clippers, fans, seeing all the filiphans
[00:08:27] All these disgruntled people that Doc Rivers ruin their life Go get a therapist Okay Work about your own team Stop worrying about our team Stop praying for the downfall of our team Cheer for your team and grow up Like That's the thing about Twitter or that God
[00:08:44] But it just Whether it's politics or sports It is just toxic Completely toxic I would like to interview JJ Reddick And I'm sure he's going to rain About it more But all the credibility he had has gone Anytime he talks about the box The rest of the year
[00:08:57] I'm going to roll my eyes Because he let it be known How he feels We've talked about this If you want to be a neutral commentator Have the journalist to integrity He can't break the rule The rule is You don't talk about your emotions Period
[00:09:13] That's why Brian Anderson is one of my favorite commentators When you're listening to him come to the game He's not picking a team He's saying what he sees And I feel like commentary You can criticize a team That's fine Totally Justifiable But going after a person
[00:09:31] I mean, especially the way JJ Reddick did Listen to the sounds like a little blinded little brat There's a lot right now on the box There's a question that was asked During the Alstar Break about Dame And his dream five to play with
[00:09:44] And he didn't say Yamus's name But they were talking about The dream players to play with from the United States It's all this drama And so yeah So there's pressure on the box The box are going to be under the microscope Because they have Dame They have Yamus
[00:10:03] And our schedule is the fourth toughest in the league It is the toughest in the East The fact that people are like Oh, Doc is three and seven Like just tell me you don't know anything about basketball Without saying the phrase I don't know anything about basketball
[00:10:19] When you inherit a team That is not playing good And all of a sudden If they win I think it'll be like Oh, they're playing great under Doc Rivers I mean this is not in B.A.2.K. Like this is the real world
[00:10:34] There's personalities, there's people, there's plays, there's communication There's a lot of stuff going on Okay? And the 27-28 games the box have left It's going to be more than enough Box fans I'm going to talk to you right now Okay? Specifically to you
[00:10:53] All that stuff you're hearing out there It's noise That's all it is I mean a situation is comparable To where the box were in 2021 When they won the final NBA championship They just have to get it together And they will
[00:11:07] I think there's some things to be optimistic about When you look at all star weekend The box coaching staff was there Dame was there Janice was there And these was there too But ultimately in the game Said practices for that It was the box coaching staff
[00:11:24] And Damien Yons And then got to just chill out Have some real personal moments I'm sure I'm getting to know each other on a personal level Not something you really have a lot of opportunity To do during the season I mean you do to a point
[00:11:39] I'm sure I'm not a player I don't know but You know you're You're constantly trying to stay out of your own head Right? During the season And there's the grind It's like any job There's a grind to it So you come to the star weekend
[00:11:51] Dame plays out of his mind Wins the 3-point contest Then gets MVP of the game Two half-court shots Both Jonas and Dame played really good So raise your hand out there If you think this is going to help the box Because I'm raising my hand right now
[00:12:07] I think Ultimately it is a process And you have to trust the process Like right now I'm trying to lose weight Okay, I've lost 18 pounds I have probably another 18 Lose Who knows Maybe more But it doesn't fall off in one day Ladies and gentlemen Right?
[00:12:24] It's the same thing I know a Mr. Metaphor guy But like it's the truth We have to be patient and trust the process Not to steal from any other teams But it's the truth Now that being said
[00:12:35] It does seem like there is a target on the box back But none of it matters So let's end in this Let's do a 10-game sample Of the Milwaukee box Let's start that right now This 10-game Let's hit the Reci up button On the box 10 games
[00:12:51] Let's break those down quickly Timber walls That's going to be a tough game Number one team in the West Best defense in the league It's going to be a tough thing See what the box can do It's a good Let's test for them The game in Philly
[00:13:05] They should win that game Philly is not playing good There's one one right there There's two against the harness There's three Bulls game They're really going to need that game Especially with their tiebreaker Against the Cavs There's four You know, hopefully we have that point
[00:13:17] We're at four and one We should be on the road trip Then we play LA It's going to be a tough game Let's just give the box a loss there Then they go play Golden State Let's say they get a win there
[00:13:27] That's a game that could probably take Though the warriors have been playing good That's a game I think we could take Then let's split one between the lakers and the clippers So now we're sitting at three losses And then the kings I think we can beat the kings
[00:13:40] So we're sitting at seven and three total So let's just go for six wins there Just go above 500 Good goal We're going to break it down We're going to stay on top of all the stats And data that comes out of those 10 games
[00:13:54] We're going to break it down for you There it is Everything else is noise Nothing else matters except Those games right now And hopefully there's improvement on the defense There has been but the offense has regressed The whole play the offense comes back to life
[00:14:10] Prismittleton should be there Let's go Let's do this Ignore Twitter put it down We don't want to read it It's always your time anyway Each alarm means I appreciate you Thanks for listening We'll see you on the next one
