Run it Back! NBA Week in Review - Week 12
===
[00:00:00]
Jose: Week 12 of the 20 25, 26 NB. A season is over, which means it's time to run it back. This is run it back NBA week in review. I am Jose Salviati, Editor at thePeachbasket.net, and this is the show where we recap the week that was in the NBA by sharing the only objective NBA power rankings anywhere the stats standouts.
That is the best to do it by average in the week. That was. And then we take a look at the viral news in the NBA in a segment We. Full court press. Finally, we highlight the marquee matchup for the week to come. So we discuss all things NBA basketball for the past week, and we take a look at what's coming ahead.
We start like we always do, with the only objective overall top 10 NBA power rankings anywhere. You can read more about how we get to this list and why they are objective, as well as reading the entire [00:01:00] list@thepeachbaskets.net. Let's take a look at the top 10 at the conclusion. Of week number 12, the Miami Heat were one and two and week number 12, and it cost them a spot in the top 10.
They dropped from number nine to number 12, which means we have a new team in the top 10 this week, and that team, or the Toronto Raptors, they were two and one and week number 12, and it saw them. Bump up from one spot from number 11 to number 10. So they start us off this week the New York Knicks had a rough week.
They were one and two in week 12, and it cost them, they dropped two spots. They come in at number nine in week number 12. The number nuggets also were two and two. And I say also because it also costs them a couple of spots. They drop two spots just like the Knicks, and they land at number eight in week number 12.
The Boston Celtics two and two and also dropped two spots. It seems to be a [00:02:00] theme. The Celtics are better than they were expected to be, but had a rough week. The Phoenix Suns were also, I think, better than they were expected to be, but they had a good week. They were three and one and week number 12, and that saw them move up from number 10.
Two, the number six spot, that's what a three in one week will do for you. The Minnesota Timberwolves said, Hey, hold our beer. We went three and oh in week number 12, and they also jumped up a pretty spectacular four spots. Coming in at number five. The Timberwolves are howling and playing good basketball.
The Houston rockets were one and two, but it didn't cost them in week number 12. They stay at number four. The spurge were two in one in week number 12, and it sees them come in again at week pardon me at number three for the fourth week in a row. And then when you get to the top two is when you have some interesting [00:03:00] situations here.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have hit a bit of a bump in the road. There were only two and two in week number 12, and it cost them for the first time since week number five, they drop from the number one spot. They are our number two team after week number 12, which means of course we have a new number one, no surprise to anybody.
The Detroit Pistons, they finished the week off with a loss. They were three in one overall, but it was enough to take over the number one spot from the Oklahoma City Thunder. Congrats to Detroit and the Pistons. That's the objective top 10 list for week number 12. If you wanna see where all 30 teams land this week, please visit the peach basket.net.
Now let's shift our focus to the players. These are the best to do it by average in week number 12 of the 20 25, 26 NBA season. These are the best, again, by average and only for the week [00:04:00] in shooting rebounds assist block steals points in game score. I love this because. This is how I get introduced to players I've never heard of.
And there are some players here that I was not familiar with and let's see if it's the same for y'all. First we start with a name. We have not called out in this in the time that we've been doing it, and that is Trey Murphy. Congrats to Trey. He had himself a great week. He led everyone. He played three games and led the entire association with 34.7 points per game.
It's been a rough go things in New Orleans, but maybe the Pelicans have someone they can really build around. Not his ion, not in Derrick Queen, but in Trey Murphy. Trey Murphy also led everyone in three points, made three point shots, made 6.7, and he was the co-lead with 12.3 field goals made over his three games played.
He [00:05:00] shares that honor with Giannis, Lieutenant kba. Let's move to rebounds where Nik Kovich was the top rebounder three games played. He pulled down 14.3 boards. Use of IC and Steven Adams both averaged six offensive rebounds, but we give the shout out to Steven Adams. He did it over three games played and IC only played in two.
And Anthony Davis unfortunately hurt again, also only played two games, pulled down 11 rebounds, though defensive rebounds to lead the entire association last time. We'll be calling out his name, unfortunately for a while. Hope he gets better soon. The top assist man was Jamal Murray. He played two games and averaged 16.5 assists.
And here's a name y'all may not be familiar with. Musa CE is an undrafted rookie for the Dallas Mavericks. A position where they might need somebody [00:06:00] now after ad's injury. Although they're, they got some other good centers on that team, but he played one game and sent back three shots. He was the top rim protector.
Congratulations to Musa. Cce. Now the Steels category is pretty full. There were five players. All that averaged three steels. A game, but we're gonna give the shout out to Avante Green because Avante did it over four games, played Jte Green plays basketball for the Detroit Pistons. You may not know that. I admit I did not.
But again, over four games, he had three steals on average. Well done. Good week for Avante Green. Trey Murray was the overall game score lead with a respectable 28 point. Eight. Those are our stats Standouts for week number 12. Now let's look ahead to week number 13. The best matchup is [00:07:00] undeniably in the West where the top two Western conference teams will go head to head.
~We saw the same thing last week in the east. Now we get it in the west.~
~Now let's look ahead to week number 13. The best matchup is in the West, where the top two Western conference teams will go head to head ~in Oklahoma City. The thunder are only six and four over the last two. We talked about that earlier. But more importantly, they're O and three against the Spurs. So we have to do it.
We have to call this week number 13 game what it is for the Thunder, and that is a must win. The thunder need to send a message to the Spurs. And of course the Spurs want the thunder to know that they are the better team and the first three games where no fluke, that is going to be a great game. We end with the segment we call full court press.
I ask AI for its thoughts on viral trending NBA news as we head into week number 13, and it came up with some good ones, as it always does. Of course. Tre, young Tre Fallout and Hawks ad chase which is probably now grounded after ad's injury when Ben's viral kick in the Spurs Emerging identity.
We'll talk a little bit about that Ref [00:08:00] controversies, LeBron Giannis. Growing officiating anger. Most recently friend of our site, our program, our shot clock pod podcast referee, Scott Foster was recently catching some heat for kicking out Jason Kidd. All interesting topics, but I'm gonna focus on Victor Wema.
Not so much on that viral cake, but Victor overall and if you missed it, the viral cake. There's an interesting video of weby releasing a group of basketballs that are stuck in a net. He didn't do it by grabbing a broom or by stretching and touching them with his fingers. He kicked the balls free.
I mean it, he jumped and he kicked the balls, which were over nine feet in the air free. He did it with a kick. It's incredible Now. As amazing as that is, again, that's not what I wanna focus on, but it is a video worth watching if you haven't seen it yet. Instead, I wanna focus on Victor Wema as a [00:09:00] person and a player.
Now, a few seasons ago, Steve, a co-host of the Shot Clock Pod, which we just referenced, and I we did a series where we matched current players with players from the past. Of course there's never a perfect match. So it's an inexact science. It's very subjective, but it's fun to see glimpse of player X and player Y.
And I gotta tell you, I see a lot of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in Victor Mbma, and no, Kareem never kicked a ball free from Annette that we know of. And no, I'm not just basing this on the fact that both are seven feet tall. It goes deeper and honestly, it bodes really well for the San Antonio Spurs.
Wema, for example, spent around 10 days at the Shalin Temple in China, training Shalin kung Fu, working on balance, flexibility, and warrior monk style conditioning. Now Korean famously studied martial arts with Bruce Lee. Training t Kdu, footwork, kicks and balance, and even appeared with him in a film [00:10:00] called Game of Death.
If you haven't seen that film I don't know if the film is necessarily good. I do remember watching it, but the, you can see just a snippet of Kareem and Bruce Lee's moment. If you haven't seen it, Google it. It's incredible. A suffice to say that Kareem in the movie left an imprint, Bruce Lee, it's a great scene.
Now both of them WEBY and Kareem talk about martial arts as a way to improve body control, balance and mental discipline that then translates back to basketball. But again, it goes further than that. It's deeper than that. They're both voracious readers. Kareem is widely known as an avid reader and writer, publishing essays, op-eds novels, historical works, and often discussing literature, politics, and philosophy.
Kap as he was known. In his time with the Lakers, has written over 15 books. We shared that he reads a book before every game and also for an hour before he goes to sleep. Reading is a part of his pre-game [00:11:00] routine. He hasn't written any books yet that we know of, but it makes sense that might be coming.
Both are portrayed as thoughtful, somewhat reserved stars who are more introspective than the Ty, than the typical loud, performative superstar which we do have some of in the NBA. Now in the court, WEBY Falls is a little bit behind In his first three seasons 1969 to 1972, Korean averaged an astounding 28.8 points, 14.5 rebounds, and somewhere between four to five blocks.
Those were unofficial early stats. The NBA didn't count blocks as an official stat until 73 74. Kareem was rookie of the year and MVP over those three seasons again. A pretty amazing start to his career. Wendy can match the rookie of the year and comes close in rebounds at 11.5 and blocks. Really 3.6.
And those are official obviously, but he isn't quite the score. Kareem was [00:12:00] still 23 points per game. Isn't bad. Crib, of course, is most famous for Sky Hook. Weby signature shot right now might be that elbow jumper. It's a little fade away and he shoots from so high up. It's virtually unblockable just like the sky hook.
The key, of course for Weby and the Spurs will be winning. Both Weby and Kareem turned perennial losers into contenders. Kareem with Milwaukee and Webe lifting the spurs from 22 winds to a 70% wind pace. Kareem ultimately led the bucks to a championship in 1971. Now it's Wendy's turn. It's only a matter of time.
That's it. Week number 12 of the 20 25, 26 NBA season is in the books. Join us again next week after week number 13 when we once again run it back.
